Summer Theatre of New Canaan
Mission
STONC is starting a new Jr Company for middle school age students grades 5 - 8.
This junior company will rehearse and perform a fully staged musical production in our modern tent theatre in Waveny Park. The Junior Company members will work with professional actors, director, choreographer, designers and crew from the Summer Theater who will instruct, rehearse and help them put on their show.
Rehearsals will be Mon-Fri July 11-22 2-4:30 PM at the Summer Theatre Rehearsal Studios at the Performing Arts Conservatory of New Canaan and Mon - Fri from 1:30 -5PM July 25-29 on the stage of the Tent Theatre at Waveny Park, New Canaan. A public performance will be presented in the Open Air modern tent theatre Friday at 3PM. Tuition for the three week program and show is $675 for the three weeks. All participants will require a 50% deposit to hold their position in the company. Balance will be do July 1. There will be a few need based scholarships available. Summer 2011, The Summer Theatre of New Canaan's Theatre Intensive and Apprentice Program will set forth on a summer adventure into the depths of the theatrical process. When we come out on the other end, you will have a new understanding of ensemble building and personal discovery, as well as the tools necessary to be both strong actors

and informed theatre artists. Second year participants are encouraged!
Dates:
The program will run from June 27th through July 24th. Apprentices will also have the opportunity to stay another two weeks through Aug 7th, should they be cast in the musical, children show or hold technical show or administrative roles.
This program will be broken up into four sections:
Core Training - Master Classes - Apprenticeship - Original Performance (NEW)

Ensemble Building - Voice and Movement - Acting -Shakespearean Verse - Theatrical Clowning & Self Discovery - Musical Theatre Techniques
Master Classes may include:
Mime - Dance Styles - Juggling - Audition Techniques - Singing - Storytelling - Commedia del'arte - Directing - Adapting Narrative for performance - Performance of Poetry - Stage Management - Producing - Design elements: Set, Costumes, Lights - Musical Theatre Auditioning - Creative Drama / Teaching Children - Headshots

Apprenticeship:
Students will be assigned to various productions in the STONC season. The season includes:
Grease, Carousel, Frog and Toad (TYA Musical) and Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse (TYA)
Students will hold crew responsibilities. Participants will be responsible for show specific schedules based on individual schedules. Roles may include:
• Assistant Director • Box Office Assistant • Assistant stage manager • Light crew • Costume crew • Sound Crew • Set crew • Performer • Other...
Musical Performance: (NEW)
The Apprentices will put on their own Musical / Acting Presentation in the Tent Theatre at the end of the season.

Interns will work closely with professional creative, management and technical staff in their selected positions. Applicants will need to submit their resume with related theater and work experience, one letter of recommendation recommended. Applications will be on a rolling bases beginning in April.
