High School Intensive and Apprentice Program

Apprentice ProgramThe Summer Theatre of New Canaan (STONC) will sponsor a six-week theatre intensive for high school students interested in pursuing a professional career in the performing arts. This intensive will include professional training in acting styles including:
Shakespearean Verse, Musical Theatre, and Theatrical Clowning. In addition to acting training, participants will learn the tools for creating a show from page to stage by taking workshops and master classes in adapting, directing, stage management, design and
producing as well as helping out behind the scenes with STONC's four professional productions. This intensive will culminate in a performance created by the participants with the guidance of the professional faculty.

The program will be taught by New York and Chicago theatre professionals, Broadway
performers current and veteran, as well as members of the casts and production teams
working on STONC's season: Twelfth Night, Shakespeare for kids, Six Impossible
Things, and The Music Man.

By the end of this six-week intensive, participants will have acquired an appreciation for
ensemble building and personal discovery as it relates to theatre, as well as tools to be
both strong actors and informed theatre artists. Space is limited.

Monday, June 23rd - Thursday, July 31st.

  • Adapting Narrative for performance
  • Performance of Poetry

  • Creative Drama/Teaching Children

Applicants (High School students only) will need to send (email) a 200-word essay explaining why they would like to be considered for this program and one adult reference from someone who is familiar with your interests in theater. Cost of the 6-week program is $1500.
Limited financial aid is available.
