High School Intensive and
Apprentice Program
Summer 2009, The Summer Theatre of New Canaan's Theatre Intensive and Apprentice Program will set forth on a summer adventure into the depths of the theatrical process. When we come out on the other end, you will have a new understanding of ensemble building and personal discovery, as well as the tools necessary to be both strong actors and informed theatre artists. Second year participants are encouraged!
Dates:
The program will run from Wed, June 24-Friday, July 24.
This program will be broken up into four sections:
Core Training - Master Classes - Apprenticeship - Original Performance (NEW)

Omen Sade (Trained with master teachers in Holland, Spain, Italy, England: Mime, Commedia del Arte, mask making

Apprenticeship:
Students will be assigned to various productions in the STONC season. The season includes:
Taming of the Shrew:
• Tech: 6/16 - 6/18 (2:00 - 11:00pm)
• Shows: 6/19 - 7/11 (Wed-Sunday at 7:30pm)
• Strike; 7/11
Shakespeare for Kids: Taming of the Shrew
• Shows: 6/27 - 7/11 (Saturdays at 2:00pm)
Pinocchio
• Rehearsals: 6/22 - 6/26 (1:00-6:00)
• Shows: 6/26- 7/11 (Fri, Sat: 10:00am; Sun: 1:00pm)
Camelot
• Rehearsals: 6/23 - 7/11 (6:00-10:00)
• Tech: 7/12 - 7/17 (1:00-10:00)
• Shows: 7/18 - 7/20, 7/23-8/2 (Thurs-Sat: 7:30; Sat - Sun: 2:00)
• Strike: 8/3

Students will hold crew responsibilities. Participants will be responsible for show specific schedules based on individual schedules. Roles may include:
• Assistant Director
• Box Office Assistant
• Assistant stage manager
• Light crew
• Costume crew
• Sound Crew
• Set crew
• Performer

Musical Performance: (NEW)
The Apprentices will put on their own Musical production under STONC's tent. This will be a full-length show devised by the participants. With the help of a professional director / Composer the apprentices will create a musical of their own.
A typical weekday* (weekends may vary based on performance schedules):
10:00-12:15 Core Training
12:15-1:15 Lunch
1:15-3:45 Workshop / Rehearsal
3:45-4:15 Break
4:15-6:00 or
6:00-10:00 Professional Apprenticeship

Performance:
Thursday, 7/23 at 4:00 Presentation of the Apprentice Musical
Wednesday, 7/8 : Apprentices will perform scenes from Taming of the Shrew with the professional actors under the tent!
Field Trip: The group will have the opportunity to see HAIR on Broadway & receive a backstage tour. Theatre Ticket included in tuition. (Tuesday, 7/21)
